So here I am waiting for the aspirin mask. Again. It seems whenever I'm waiting for the mask to work, I feel motivated to write an actual blog entry. By "proper", it means actual photos taken from the camera, editing in paintshop (shh! don't laugh, I don't use photoshop, I'm still too attached to jasc paintshop cos I'm used to the functions) and then properly typed up using a keyboard rather than a phone.
Mobile entries are good time-wasters, but annoying too- number pad typing tests my patience. Anyone willing to sponsor me a phone with qwerty keyboard and good blogging features? =P Jk. I've finished all my assignments for this semester. It's the last week of uni next week, and I just have one more presentation to go, but that's really just practicing guitar, piano and singing (stay far away, everyone, and put some ear muffs on!)
Anyway, on to food!

From Week 21, 2010 |
LuLu biscuits. Milk for my brother, dark for my mum. They ran out the next time I went to buy them, so I got a raincheck for 5 of them =) They were still out of the stock the last time I checked, but they are so good, so it's no wonder.
From Week 21, 2010 |
Friday saw me and tt at Zilver for yum cha. I kinda wish we went to Regal instead, because it's sadly closing down!!! DX Seriously, I've had so many good memories at Regal- it was one of the first places for yum cha I went with tt, and I took my classmates there during the midsem break to have the most awesome mango sago. It's closing down because the land owner wants to tear down the place and rebuild something else instead, so it's not the food gone bad, it's... an unfortunate turn of events.
From Week 21, 2010 |
Oh yea, the above was char siu cheong fun, and this one is prawns. I love my cheong fun in yum cha =D so you can probably guess what is coming next...
From Week 21, 2010 |
=D yayyyy!! crispy bread thingie wrapped in cheong fun.
From Week 21, 2010 |
We figured, since we had prawn cheong fun, we don't need har gao and just ordered siu mai. Typical must-have yum cha. I think next time, we should just order strange and out of the ordinary dishes instead of the common ones.
From Week 21, 2010 |
When I go yum cha with tt, we seem to always get the same dishes! Though we have been on the lookout for the white version of chicken feet. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere though...
From Week 21, 2010 |
One of my favourite dishes- pork rib. It's absolutely delicious with the slight tinge of spiciness. I found myself adding a chilli to things I cook, and my hands will sting when I chop the chilli, from all the little cuts I get from work. Then when I rub my eyes or face, that will sting too. Haven't found any good ways to get rid of the chilliness on the hands though... tips anyone?
From Week 21, 2010 |
Cow tripe!! I love how it's kind of firm and not as squishy as cow belly, which tt likes. It looks so clean and nice, though my dad always say they bleach it, so it's actually quite unhealthy for you.
From Week 21, 2010 |
On the same day, we visited TNC, a Taiwanese dessert place on the same street as Takeru and Sushi Rio. It's really just a shop or two away from Takeru. We went there when it first opened and had their "soup balls". Quite nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. It's been quite a few months since, and we wanted to see how they've improved... or deproved.
From Week 21, 2010 |
They've improved, even providing menus now at the tables. Introducing Mount Fuji.
From Week 21, 2010 |
We sat down and ordered two desserts. Their menu have become quite extensive and everything looked so good. At the counter, they had special cakes.
From Week 21, 2010 |
Fraud alert! Fake handbags sighted. It's really pretty how they make it, though I'm no "branded goods" fan, it's still really creatively made. I can see how quite a few boyfriends might get cakes like these for their *cough high maintenance* girlfriends.
From Week 21, 2010 |
I ordered a mango sorbet and shaved ice dessert. They used real mango pieces, which would have been super hard to get, considering it's no longer mango season. I suspect they bought the mango and froze it, so it's forgivable that the mangoes aren't exactly fresh. The sorbet was really good though, and the shaved ice... take a look at this:
From Week 21, 2010 |
I have no idea how they do it, but it's like thin sheets of ice. Usually when ice is shaved, it becomes powdery, but this was really soft and thin slices of ice that just melts... yea I know, all ice melts when you eat it, but this one felt different! Don't know how to describe it, but rather than powder, it was layers of ice.
Week 21, 2010 |
And Mount Fuji is sighted!
From Week 21, 2010 |
Matcha ice cream encased in batter and deep fried to golden perfection, drizzled with chocolate sauce and complimented by red beans with cream, surrounded by an assortment of colourful fruits. It's really food like these that make you wonder about... and envy... food critics. They get to sample free food, and go to exclusive events... imagine the many different types of never-before-tasted foods they'd have tried.
(Thinking along that line, my sister has been talking about dreams people have when they're small, and how those dreams change as they get older, and what dreams actually do get accomplished. I think if I watched Iron Chef when I was small, I'd dream to be in the shoes of Chairman Kaga, because, damn him, he's sampled countless dishes created by the iron chefs and challengers of similar caliber... some which costs a fortune to make, AND he gets paid for it! Where's the justice in this world??)
Digressing, but let's move on. If yum cha and dessert weren't enough, we also went for tea at ChaTime.
From Week 21, 2010 |
From Week 21, 2010 |
This was at the branch near Town Hall. Best decorated out of all the other ChaTime I've been at, like Chatswood and China Town. Have been noticing interior designing ever since Hello!Happy and MarioTokyo. I used to think the atmosphere of the restaurant didn't really matter as long as the food is good, but it definitely contributes to the sense of satisfaction... customers these days are so hard to please.
From Week 21, 2010 |
See the layers? =D I shook it up last time when I had it before even SEEING the layers, but here you can see the perfect layers of pearls, milk and Tie Guan Ying tea! I've successfully converted tt into a ChaTime fan =D
From Week 21, 2010 |
Rawr. Haha, Sadako photo taken just for fun. My hair's getting long, but it's winter and hair keeps you warm... shall cut it in summer. Short.
One final photo (the tickets aren't with me, so it's no use coming to rob my house for them!):

Bye! =D

Iron Chef! That's something to look forward to before exams I guess. Also, I think chairman Kaga has tried every dish, except for only one..? Anyway, I have to remind myself to download the rest of the episodes when I have spare quota one day.
what is asprin mask???
jie
White chicken feet sucks anyway...
I think you just need gloves to cut the chillis...
And those sheets shaved ice, I've heard of that - I think you need a special ice shaver for that.
Really? I've heard quite the contrary about white chicken feet, it's apparently even nicer than the yellow one. Yet to try it though, so I don't know. As for cutting the chilli, I just avoid touching the seeds or the inside of the chilli... hold it by the stalk and cut, haha
Chairman Kaga didn't try any of the suckling pig battle, which, imo, is totally his loss. Anyway, since it's Sakai and Chen coming, it should be good- they were the two best iron chefs, other than michiba!
Aspirin mask, I'll show you when you come back jie.
